King Penthouse

Toronto, Ontario

"Minimal and bright were the words our client used to describe how they wanted to approach their two-storey penthouse suite in the heart of Toronto."

The King Penthouse living area was quite large and open so we worked in two main conversation areas. A rounded velvet sofa was selected in the living space to ease the eye into the great panoramic views of Toronto and not compete with them. We wanted to go extremely minimal on the walls and let the city take center stage. A large custom rug brings all the pieces together with pops of blue throughout the scheme creating a cohesive design where every piece relates to each other.

The King Penthouse kitchen was designed to be simple and practical. Off white walls, simple white cabinets with integrated appliances, under-mount lighting, a marble herringbone backsplash with a faint vein and solid white countertop allows the beautiful black island and it’s veins to pop. Black hardware completes the look and is tied together with other elements throughout the space such as the dining pendant.

Instead of gutting the kitchen in our King Penthouse project, we kept the same footprint, refaced the doors and replaced the countertop and backsplash for a simple, practical look. Bold black quartz waterfalls the island with a subtle white vein to create contrast against an all white kitchen.

The existing staircase to the second floor was a beautiful feature and it inspired some of the colours and materials we chose throughout the project.

The Powder Room off the foyer is where we wanted to be a little more adventurous choosing a purple venetian plaster paint that pairs perfectly with black marble floors and a dark vanity sink.

Chrome, acrylic and brushed nickel were used in a lot of the furniture’s finishes to create the look and feel the client desired. It can be seen in various pieces such as the coffee table in the living room, the headboard in the primary bedroom and many of the legs throughout the home. The second bedroom on the second floor was designed as both a working space for our client and a spare bedroom with a pull out sofa for overnight guests.
