Modern living room in Clover Residence

Clover

Vaughan, Ontario

"The goal of this basement renovation was simple:
Don’t make this space feel like a basement."

In the ever increasing hot real estate market in the Greater Toronto Area, this project had to work as a functional secondary space for a large family and also become a secondary rentable unit to earn some extra income in the future.

Clover Resdience is located in Vaughan Ontario, we completely transformed this basement into a unique, functional secondary suite that has as much character as anyone’s main floor. The inspiration for this renovation was mid-century modern. Before the project started, the basement was an open, empty shell with concrete floors and an exposed joist ceiling.

It was extremely important to have the layout work with the existing structural columns, HVAC locations and a staircase in the center of the basement that acts as a divider between the living space and a home office. We strategically placed our partitions to work around existing HVAC and plumbing cleanouts. One is concealed behind a custom bookshelf in the living room.

We went very dark with a midnight blue in Clover’s foyer to create a dramatic entrance in the enclosed, windowless space with a cute bird bath for keys and wallets. Some fun wallpaper in the adjacent bathroom brings the element of nature into this basement.

Mid-Century Modern Kitchen

A large kitchen with walnut panels reminiscent of the 60’s has plenty of storage and a generous island perfect for meal prep and entertaining. We opted for no uppers as it would have enclosed the space and felt too dark. Instead, we installed an open shelf and glossy grid backsplash that helps reflect light throughout the basement making it bright and airy.

A dark forest green in the bedroom creates the most comfortable sleeping area with a king size platform bed at Clover Residence. Selecting furniture without legs in areas with low headroom allowed the space to feel larger.

Our Client's Testimonial

My wife and I had trouble retrofitting our parent's basement for quite sometime until we found Level Studio who were local interior designers in Vaughan. We reached out to them to help us design a functional space that offered privacy for us and could be large enough for family gatherings. Luca & Vinh are a great team as they came in for an initial design consultation and played out some possibilities. We carried through with their design phase and loved everything that they presented us. We definitely learned the importance and value of having a solid game plan during the design phase prior to purchasing anything or beginning the renovation. They were able to capture our vision, needs and wants and their implementation was fantastic. They project managed the entire scope and were easy to work with. Their contracting team were professional and great to have on this project as Luca and Vinh were able to be there every step of the way ensuring quality and make sure things goes to plan.
